Definition of Dedicated Hosting Plans

When we talk about hosting servers, there are 3 main categories - shared website hosting servers, VPS (virtual private web servers) and dedicated hosting servers. Shared hosting web servers accommodate multiple customers and therefore the resources per account are limited, virtual private server packages offer more server configuration independence, but also affect other VPS web hosting servers on the hardware node if utilized heedlessly, and dedicated servers offer you the liberty to do everything you prefer without interfering with anyone else.

Why would you need a dedicated hosting server?

Dedicated servers are generally much more high-priced than shared hosting web servers or VPS web hosting servers. Why would anyone, then, want to use them? The answer is very simple. If your corporation has a resource-swallowing web site, or simply has very special web server setup requirements, the wisest choice is a dedicated server. For somebody who is willing to invest in safety and dependability, the higher price is not a concern. You have complete root-level access and can use 100% of the server's system resources without anyone else sharing these resources and interfering with your web portals.

Hardware architectures

Most web hosting suppliers, incl. us at Supportive Hosting, provide several different hardware configurations you can choose from based on your necessities. The hardware architectures include different varieties of microprocessors, a different number of cores, different RAM and hard drive sizes and different monthly bandwidth usage quotas. You can choose a Control Panel, which is a useful user interface if you want to utilize the dedicated server for website hosting purposes solely and prefer not to resort to a Secure Shell terminal for all the changes you will be making. We provide three kinds of web hosting Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The Control Panel of your choice

If you are a self-confident Linux user (our dedicated web hosting servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based OSs), you could administer your dedicated server via an SSH connection only. That, however, could be awkward, especially if you decide to give root privileges to somebody else who has less technical expertise than yourself. This is why having web hosting CP software pre-installed is a fine idea. The Hepsia hosting Control Panel GUI that we provide does not include complete server root access and is mostly suitable for somebody who runs numerous sites that absorb lots of resources, but would rather manage the web portals, databases and e-mailboxes via an intuitive web hosting CP. The DirectAdmin and cPanel web hosting CPs, on the other hand, grant complete root access and offer three levels of access - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell web hosting accounts instead of utilizing the dedicated web hosting server solely for yourself, you should select one of these two.

Server monitoring and backup services

Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated hosting server and of backing it up. In case of a problem with your dedicated server, like an unresponsive Apache or a network outage, it is good to have some kind of monitoring system enabled. Here at Supportive Hosting the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated hosting server as well. Backups are also an extra option - the web hosting solutions provider offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could select a kind of RAID that would allow you to store the same data on 2 hard disk drives as a protective measure in case of a server hard disk failure, or in case someone whom you have given full root privileges erases something accidentally.
